Join a scenic drive to see bird cliffs, ancient farmhouse ruins, volcanoes, and viewpoints.

Formed by fire

Enjoy a scenic drive to cliffs, which between May and August, are alive with marine birds, including puffins, fulmars, and guillemots. You’ll see farmhouse ruins dating back to 900 CE in Herjólfsdalur valley, and enjoy views of glaciers on the mainland at the viewpoint on Stórhöfði. Afterwards, we pass the Helgafell and Eldfell volcanoes, drive over lava fields, and see a buried house.

Puffins can be seen from May- August. In April and September other seabirds can be seen but in fewer numbers.  Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.

  • Note: Dress according to local weather conditions with good footwear (closed-toe shoes recommended) with a rubber or non-slip sole. Bring a camera! Please do not litter or disturb the local wildlife. The total drive time is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.

  • Walking information: All walking is optional, and most sites can be viewed through the bus windows.

  • Not suitable for wheelchair users
